Walking on Hampstead Heath

Hampstead Heath health walks

We run weekly health walks across the Heath and a women-only walk - no need to book, just turn up and introduce yourselves to our volunteer Walk Leaders (in hi-vis).

  • Shorter walk - 10am on Mondays (except bank holidays): meet at the Parliament Hill café - gentler and suitable for those less mobile, or recovering from injury or illness, or who simply fancy a shorter walk! You can expect to finish at 11.00.

  • Medium walk - 11am on Thursdays - meet at the Parliament Hill café - this walk is a medium length, sometimes venturing all the way to Kenwood and often with a coffee stop. You can expect to finish by 12.30.

  • Longer walk - 10am on Mondays (except bank holidays): meet opposite Hampstead Heath overground at the entrance to the Heath - this walk explores a larger area of the Heath (often going up to Kenwood), often going off the tarmac paths (so come prepared for uneven ground - sensible footwear essential!) and includes a stop at a café. You can expect to finish at around midday.

Please aim to arrive 5 minutes before the start time as the walks generally set off on time!

Nature and discovery walks

Throughout the year, we run a range of guided walks on different topics related to our green spaces. These are on specific wildlife species or habitats, as well as a broader range of walks on, for example bug hunting, tree identification, history orgeology.

These walks are open to all, though some may be aimed at certain groups (e.g. families). Most of our walks and other activities are free to attend, often with a suggested donation. See what’s coming up by clicking the button below.

Our members (Friends and volunteers of Heath Hands) get free access to all our walks and a regular newsletter with updates on what we have coming up. Find out more about becoming a friend here.

Nordic, mindfulness and other walks

As well as our regular walks walks, we run regular mindfulness walks (forest bathing) and Nordic walking. Check out the upcoming schedule on our what’s on page or click below to find out more.

We are also running a programme of nature mindfulness walks for parents/carers of young people experiencing ill health. More info here.

We can also support existing walks, for instance by providing a tour or explorer maps, and help community groups set up their own activities.
